TIMAYA: Biography and Net worth

Inetimi Alfred Odon popularly known as (Timaya or Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa) is a Nigeria singer and songwriter born on 15th August 1980 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Timaya grew up in a large family of fifteen siblings been the youngest in Agip Estate, Port Harcourt. His father was a banker and her mother a trader; he received his elementary education at Assembles of God nursery and primary school. His secondary education began at Nkpolu Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt, where he uses to snick out at night to attend night clubs, before his mother arranged for him to travel with his older brother and sister to Lagos.

Timaya gained admission into Lagos Ikeja Grammar school where he got his secondary school certificate. He returned to Port Harcourt to study Banking and Finance but dropped out in the first semester after performing poorly in examination. The Superstar then moved back to Lagos and joined Eedris Abdulkareem’s hip hop group as a backup vocalist. He left the group three years later to focus more on his solo career. Timaya subsequently met producer K-solo in Mafoluku, Oshodi who produced his first hit track “Dem Mama” after hearing him perform the a cappella version. Timaya described the song “Dem Mama” as the account of the 1999 destruction of Odi, a river side community in Niger Delta, the village was burnt down and numerous people were killed.

With the success of “Dem Mama” Timaya recorded more tracks with K-solo for his first album “True Story” which was released in 2007. Timaya began working on his second album with producer like Phyno, Jeggs, Spankie, Akeem D Beat, K-solo and Terry G, the album was released in 2008 titled “Gift and Grace”. The album won two awards in 2008 “Album of the Year” at Nigeria Music Awards and “Best Reggae/Dancehall” at The Headies Awards.  Timaya released his third studio album “The Rebirth” with its successful hit lead “Plantain Boy” which went on to win the “Best Afro-Dancehall Song” in 2011. He also received the award for the “Best collaboration” for his feature in J Martins “Good or bad” at The Headies 2009.

In 2010, Timaya was featured in the song “Kokoroko” by the female gospel singer Kefee, the song went on to win the “Best collaboration” category at the 2010 Headies Awards. In 2011, he was appointed a peace Ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIEWP).

He is the founder of the South South hip hop group Dem Mama Soldiers.

The superstar on 25th june 2012 released his 14 track hit album titled "Upgrade" which produced hit singles like "Sexy ladies", "Bum Bum" and "Malonogede". He collaborated with Attitude, Terry G and Vector.

 

ENDORSEMENT


The superstar signed a Multi-Million Naira Endorsement deal with indigenous Telecommunication giant  Globacom estimated to worth over 30 Million Naira on October 2016.  on 24th of January 2017 he signed an Ambassadorship deal with Hennessy .
